Quadratic equations

The term quadratic describes an expression or equation of the second degree - that is, it contains an <math>x^2</math>. A quadratic equation is formed by putting a quadratic (polynomial) equal to zero. The general form of a quadratic equation is <math>ax^2+bx+c=0</math>.

Quadratic equations can be solved (ie. the roots can be found) either by factorisation, or using the quadratic formula.
