Pure Core 1
Basic differentiation is introduced in Core 1. Differentiation is the process whereby the gradient of a equation can be found. In Core 1 one is only required to differentiate relatively simple equations usually in the form <math>y=f(x)</math>. In order to differentiate the coefficient of each variable is multiplied by the variable's power which is then reduced by one.
Example:
Differentiate <math>y=4x^3 + 3x^2 + 6x + 7
dy/dx = 12x^2 + 6x + 6
</math>.
This can also be seen as:
<math>y=4x^3 + 3x^2 + 6x^1 + 7x^0
dy/dx = 12x^2 + 6x^1 + 6x^0
</math>.
