Cell Production

  • Cell production, is where products are manufactured in separate areas (each with a responsibility for a different part of the manufacturing process) and many workers work on their own, as on a production line.
  • The "Cells" are often formed into a "U" shape and different parts of each product are made and developed in each each cell and then passed along to the next to be changed and added to in another way.
  • Cell Production is useful if you have specalist workers so they can concentrate on their job entirely without having interruptions. This is very eficient way of producing products as workers don't have to keep changing their job, the products are all being manufactured at one time.
  • It can have its disadvantges however, as workers, by continually doing the same thing will lose morale and take less pride in their work.
