From WikiTextbook
The centre of mass of an object is the point through which its weight acts. If suspended, an object will come to rest with its centre of mass directly below the point of suspension. The weight of the object does not then exert any turning force (moment) on the object. The centre of mass of a symmetrical object is along the axis of symmetry.
